Droste bibliographic process

The systematic bibliographic recording, processing and presentation of publications on Annette von Droste-Hülshoff's work, life and influence has been a considerable task of research since the institutionalised occupation with the authoress. Since its establishment in 1928, the Annette von Droste-Gesellschaft (society) has pursued the objective of an archive "in which all the Droste literature (manuscript or printed) will be collected and made available for research" as one of its most important aims. In 1932 Eduard Arens and Karl Schulte Kemminghausen, both members of the Droste-Gesellschaft, presented the first published Droste bibliography in book form. A continuation for the years 1932 to 1948 (published in the Yearbook of the Droste-Gesellschaft, Vol. 2) followed in 1950, edited by the then general secretary, Clemens Heselhaus, which was joined by the continuation for the years 1949 to 1969 - appeared 1972 - prepared by Winfried Theiß (apeared in "Yearbook of the Droste-Gesellschaft, Vol. 5)". Alongside there appeared in 1963 or 1968 in realised form a selective bibliography by Hans Thiekötter, also a general secretary of the Gesellschaft. As the Historisch-kritische Ausgabe [HKA] (historical-critical edition) of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff's works and correspondence was being prepared in the 1970s, being able to utilise a comprehensive and reliable bibliographic working instrument proved indispensable. Because of the multiplicity of amendments, definings and corrections, this could be achieved only by a new revision which would bring together both the old and the newly found material. The outcome of this was the two-volume Droste-Bibliographie, laid out for completeness, which was compiled by Aloys Haverbusch. Copy deadline was December 31, 1980 and the bibliography appeared as two part-volumes within the framework of the HKA (Vol. XIV.1 and XIV.2) 1983 and 1985.

In 2005 the Droste-Bibliographie 1981-2003 appeared, which attaches to the HKA bibliography and fills the gap up to the present.

Regular annual bibliographical reports will be published through this website, beginning with the year 2004.
